Medical imaging software
Engineers who build imaging pipelines, viewers, archives and the integrations around them, including DICOM-based systems.
Sector
Humand recruits the engineers and technical leaders who build medical technology: the software, imaging, algorithm, data and embedded-systems people inside medical-device, imaging and diagnostics businesses. We are a specialist technology recruitment agency based in Oxfordshire, recruiting for employers across Oxfordshire and the UK, and MedTech is one of the deep tech markets we were built for. Permanent, contract and retained leadership searches are three separate services.
We do not recruit clinical staff. No nurses, radiographers, sonographers, locum doctors or pharmaceutical sales: this page, and this practice, is about the engineering and technical leadership behind the product.
Part of Humand's specialist technology recruitment for employers and one of the markets in our deep tech recruitment practice.
The market
The product is regulated, so the engineering is too. Requirements, traceability, verification and risk management are part of the build rather than a step after it, and engineers who have shipped under that discipline work differently from those who have not.
Medical images and clinical data have their own standards. Software that stores, moves or interprets them — DICOM imaging and HL7 messaging, for example — needs people who have worked with them, and that experience is genuinely specialised.
Not every hire needs the domain. Much of a MedTech engineering team is strong software, cloud and data engineering, so we test whether each role really needs imaging or regulated-software experience before it goes into the brief.
Roles
The technical layer of medical devices, imaging and diagnostics.
Engineers who build imaging pipelines, viewers, archives and the integrations around them, including DICOM-based systems.
Computer vision, signal and image processing, and machine-learning engineers working on imaging and clinical data, including the validation work a regulated product needs.
Application, full-stack and Python engineers building software that sits inside a medical-device quality process, and the healthcare-integration specialists who connect it to clinical systems through standards such as HL7.
AWS, platform, DevOps and site reliability engineers running systems that hold clinical and imaging data, where availability and auditability both matter.
Firmware, embedded software, electronics and systems engineers working on the device itself — the layer where an instrument becomes a manufacturable product.
Heads of engineering, CTOs and technical product leaders for regulated products, run as a retained or exclusive leadership search where the role calls for it.
Approach
We split the brief into the engineering every candidate needs and the imaging or regulated-software experience only some roles need, so the specialist requirement is asked for where the work depends on it rather than applied to every hire.
As across our deep tech work, most of the people worth hiring are found by direct approach rather than by advertising, so we map who exists and approach them directly before relying on an advert.
Graduate, mid-level and senior hires carry different expectations of domain experience, and the salary follows the level. We set that out before the search starts, with salary benchmarking where it helps.
How we work
Headhunted searches for the engineers a regulated product team is built around.
Specialist contractors, with the IR35 position stated where it actually sits.
Retained or exclusive search for senior technical leadership, run as a defined package.
