“I thoroughly enjoyed my first OXVG event organised by the wonderful team at Humand. The venue was perfect and the speakers were extremely interesting. I’d thoroughly recommend anyone interested in the games industry in the Oxford area to come along to one of these events.” – Harry Lang @ Kwalee
Now That’s What I’d Call an OXVG Re-Launch!
Humand Talent welcomed me into the team in October 2023 as their Community Manager. As the name suggests, my role is to build upon their tech-community within Oxfordshire by hosting awesome, engaging and valuable events. The first: Oxford Video Game MeetUp. We went for a ‘soft’ (re)launch of this event that first started just before the pandemic hit in 2020.
A second shot! We met upstairs at St.Aldates Tavern, for a casual meeting with a few speaker sessions that offered a chance to connect, learn and share passions with like-minded professionals in the gaming industry.
Max Francis gave a ‘behind the scenes’ look into the development and security of online gambling games. Find out more about his company, Black Cow Technology, here.
Harry Lang gave an insightful talk into the marketing of indie PCC games. Harry has a brilliant book currently on sale for anyone interested in learning about how marketing works in real life: Brands, Bandwagons & Bullshit. Also, here is a link to purchase the game Wildmender that was discussed, with 10% off until the 20th of November: purchase Wildmender.
Nick Streeter showed how SpecialEffect is changing the way that people with disabilities play computer games, their work is truly incredible, do check it out here. You can also find out more on how to donate or volunteer here.
The Humand team also worked the crowd with a Character Quiz. It got a little rowdy but luckily 1st, 2nd and 3rd place all took home a coveted OXVG branded hat! Fancy your chances in our next prize draw (we’re thinking theme tunes)? Make sure you sign up for our next MeetUp in January here.
Myself and the Humand team can’t wait to welcome you back for more gaming industry insights! As always, for any queries or suggestions, email rebecca@humand.co.uk.
