About the role
We’re partnering with an established, engineering led organisation in Oxford that’s looking for a talented Software Engineer to join its growing development team.
The team is open to different levels of experience. What matters most is strong technical ability, a genuine interest in software engineering and the ability to solve challenging problems using C++ and Python.
You’ll work on sophisticated backend systems that support business critical applications, contributing across the full software development lifecycle and helping to build reliable, scalable software using modern engineering practices.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys getting stuck into technically challenging work, cares about software quality and wants to work alongside other highly capable engineers.
What You’ll Be Doing

Designing, developing and maintaining software using C++ and Python

Building reliable, scalable backend systems and services

Writing clean, well tested and maintainable code

Working with experienced engineers to solve complex technical challenges

Contributing throughout the full software development lifecycle, from design through to deployment and ongoing support

Participating in a shared on call support rota
What We’re Looking For
We’re open on level, so you don’t need to fit a particular seniority or job title. We’re more interested in your technical ability, approach to problem solving and the quality of your software engineering.
You’ll ideally have experience across many of the following:

Commercial software development using C++ and Python

Developing software within Linux environments
-
Building backend systems and services
-
Git and version control
-
Strong software engineering principles and practices
-
Solving complex technical problems

Working effectively within a collaborative engineering team
A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or another STEM discipline would be beneficial, although equivalent commercial experience is equally welcome.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be useful, but isn’t essential:

Distributed systems or scalable backend architectures

TCP/IP networking

SQL and data processing

Pandas

Bash scripting

Working with large and complex datasets

Financial services, scientific computing or another performance driven technical environment

Location
This is a full time, office based role in Oxford, with the team working onsite five days per week.
Applicants must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK as visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
