About the role
Senior Platform Engineer
- Berkshire | 1-2x/week onsite
- Up to £75,000 + Benefits
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys getting underneath complex technical problems and working across the systems and infrastructure that keep modern services running.
Rather than being focused on one narrow area, you'll work across a varied technical environment, combining hands-on engineering, troubleshooting, automation and continuous improvement.
The Role
You'll join an established engineering team responsible for the reliability, performance and ongoing development of the company's core technology environment.
Your work will include a mixture of day-to-day engineering, project work and longer-term improvements.
Depending on the challenge, you could be:
- Building, maintaining and improving Linux-based production systems
- Investigating complex performance or reliability issues
- Working across physical, virtual and hosted infrastructure
- Automating repetitive engineering and operational tasks
- Troubleshooting connectivity and systems-level problems
- Supporting infrastructure changes and technical projects
- Improving internal engineering tools and processes
- Identifying recurring issues and developing permanent solutions
- Collaborating with engineers across different technical disciplines
- Sharing knowledge and helping develop engineering capability within the team
It's deliberately a broad role. You'll have the opportunity to understand how the wider environment fits together and take ownership of problems from investigation through to resolution.
What We're Looking For
You'll have a strong background in Linux focused systems or infrastructure engineering within production environments.
Your experience is likely to include several of the following:
- Linux systems administration and troubleshooting
- Linux server and virtualised infrastructure
- Scripting, automation or Infrastructure as Code
- Networking fundamentals
- Cloud or hosted infrastructure
- Infrastructure tooling
- Monitoring and observability
- Supporting business-critical production environments
We're not looking for someone who can simply tick every technology off a checklist.
What's more important is your ability to understand complex systems, diagnose difficult problems and make good engineering decisions.
Why Consider It?
This is an opportunity to join a growing business where strong infrastructure and systems engineering is still genuinely valued.
You'll have the autonomy to improve things rather than simply maintain them, while remaining hands-on with interesting technical challenges.
There's also plenty of variety. If you enjoy understanding how systems work beneath the surface, solving problems that don't always have an obvious answer and leaving an environment better than you found it, you'll have plenty to get involved with.
