UK DevOps salary guide 2027

By Humand Talent Team · 23 May 2026

UK DevOps and Platform Engineering salaries have compressed at the top and expanded at the bottom. Here's what we're seeing across the roles we've placed and benchmarked in the last two quarters.

Headline bands (base salary, London / Oxford / Remote-UK)

  • Junior DevOps Engineer: £45–60k / £42–55k / £45–58k
  • Mid DevOps Engineer: £65–85k / £60–80k / £65–82k
  • Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer: £85–115k / £80–110k / £85–115k
  • Staff / Principal Platform Engineer: £120–160k / £115–150k / £120–155k
  • Head of Platform / DevOps: £140–190k+ / £130–175k / £140–180k

What's moving the market

Kubernetes-native platform teams remain the biggest premium — companies running managed EKS/GKE with a proper platform product internally pay 10–15% above the market. Terraform + Go is still the most valuable pairing at senior level. Pure CI/CD generalists without production platform experience are seeing offer compression.

Contract rates

Senior DevOps contractors are landing £550–700/day inside IR35, £650–800/day outside. Platform leads with quantum or AI infra experience command £750–950/day.

What to watch in 2027

Internal developer platforms (Backstage, Port) are quickly becoming table stakes. Expect to pay for engineers who've actually shipped one, not just deployed the template.
