OpenTracing to OpenTelemetry

  • Yevhen Zavhorodnii

    Principal SRE · Ticketmaster

Migrating 500+ services from OpenTracing, deprecated in favour of OpenTelemetry, to current cloud-native practice while the company was also phasing out its OpenTracing provider.

I wouldn't start from here..

  • Carl Marshall

Assembling and implementing a new DevOps team inside an established organisation: how and why it started, challenges faced, lessons learned, and the vision for the future, followed by open discussion.

OpenTracing was an initiative for vendor-neutral instrumentation for distributed tracing, later deprecated in favour of OpenTelemetry. Yevhen Zavhorodnii is a Principal SRE at Ticketmaster, and previously a Platform Engineer at Cookpad and Senior Software Engineer at Schlumberger (SLB), with around 15 years of experience across a range of roles. He actively uses Go and Rust to manage the reliability and stability of Ticketmaster services as part of a central SRE consultancy team.

Carl Marshall joined the Oxford DevOps community after its revival. He is a seasoned tech development professional with 25 years of experience spanning a wide range of roles, from one-man-band full-stack developer to a key player in larger structured teams. Now operating within a major national organisation, he brought a behind-the-screens perspective on what it takes to build a healthy DevOps culture.

Organised by Humand Talent Solutions. Supported and hosted by the BIPC.
