About the role
Humand is at the point where the owner needs a General Manager to run the operating side of the business day to day: the people, the process and the sales engine that connects clients, candidates and our communities. You'll work directly with the owner and board, carry real commercial accountability and have genuine scope to shape how the business grows. This is our key hire.
What you'll do
- Lead the day-to-day running of the business alongside the owner: the team's priorities, plans and performance.
- Oversee sales and delivery so that business development, client management and the candidate side work as one.
- Look after people: coaching, individual KPIs and plans, and building the team as Humand grows.
- Improve how work gets done, from brief to placement, including how the team uses its CRM, tools and automation.
- Take on personal billing at a level agreed with you, alongside running the business.
- Report on results to the owner and board, and help decide where Humand grows next.
What good looks like
- A team that knows its priorities and hits its plans.
- Sales and delivery working together, with fewer things falling between the two.
- Processes and tools that make the team faster rather than busier.
- Commercial results you can stand behind with the owner and board.
What you'll bring
- Experience of leading people and being accountable for commercial results.
- Strong commercial judgement and comfort with numbers, targets and trade-offs.
- The ownership and high standards to run a small business day to day, and to muck in when it's needed.
Useful, not essential
- Experience in recruitment, staffing or another professional-services sales business.
- Familiarity with technology or deep-tech markets.
- Experience improving processes, CRM use or automation in a growing team.
Where it leads
The General Manager works directly with the owner and board, and the role grows as the business does.
Benefits
- Holiday: 28 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 days in your fourth year and 30 in your fifth. The office closes between Christmas and New Year, and that time comes from annual leave.
- Private medical: Bupa private medical cover for you, with the option to add family members. Dental and optical are available as an optional upgrade.
- Life assurance: Life assurance (death-in-service) cover.
- Pension: A workplace pension through standard auto-enrolment.
- Travel and parking: Free parking at the Eynsham office, mileage paid for business travel, and travel to events paid.
- Kit: A laptop is supplied.
- Communities and events: You can attend any Humand community or event, and you'll meet the founders, engineers and hiring leaders who come to them.
- Time together: Company socials, a Christmas party, ad-hoc team lunches, and team days, workshops and training days.

How we hire
- A first call. Around 30 minutes on the phone with the hiring manager or Joe Edney.
- Face-to-face interview. A conversation in person, including a small task or presentation so you can show how you think.
- Meet the team. Time with a good part of the team, so you know who you'd be working with.
- A final conversation. A follow-up with Joe Edney to answer your remaining questions and talk about next steps.
We can move quickly, but we'd rather give everyone who applies a fair look than hire the first person through the door.
