On Tuesday, 19th November 2024, the Humand Talent team hosted our fourth PeopleOps Oxford event, bringing together professionals from across Oxfordshire and beyond to talk all things HR, Talent, and PeopleOps. Despite the snowy weather, the room was packed with energy, great ideas, and plenty of lively discussions. This time, we focused on two really important topics: neuroinclusion in the workplace and how to spot high-potential employees.

What Happened on the Day?

Melanie Francis: Neuroinclusion Throughout the Employee Lifecycle

We kicked off the day with Melanie Francis, a Chartered FCIPD and a strong advocate for neuroinclusion. Her talk, “How can you be neuroinclusive throughout the employee lifecycle?”, explained what neurodiversity really means (and what it doesn’t).

Mel shared practical advice for creating workplaces where neurodiverse talent can thrive, covering everything from recruitment to day-to-day adjustments. She also shared real-life examples of legal cases involving neurodiversity, showing how critical it is to get this right—not just morally, but legally too.

Tameron Chappell: How to Identify High-Potential Employees

Next, we heard from Tameron Chappell, a Chartered Psychologist with over 20 years of experience in talent management. Her talk, “How to decide if someone is high potential and how to measure it,” gave a simple, easy-to-follow framework for spotting and supporting high-potential employees.

Tameron reminded us, though, that while developing HiPos is key, focusing only on them can be risky. Her session encouraged a more balanced approach to talent solutions, and the ideas sparked some brilliant conversations during the networking break.

Thank You, Everyone!

We couldn’t have pulled off this event without the amazing PeopleOps Oxford community. A massive thank you to our speakers, Melanie Francis and Tameron Chappell, for their inspiring and practical sessions. Also, a big shoutout to the Business and IP Centre Oxfordshire for supporting the event.

Finally, thanks to everyone who braved the snow to join us. Your energy and enthusiasm made it a morning to remember!
