On Wednesday, 12th March, the Business and IP Centre Oxfordshire was once again buzzing with conversation, curiosity, and collaboration as OxLiT hosted another energising evening – this time exploring Generative AI, the future of work, and the ethical frameworks shaping tomorrow’s tech.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us – from seasoned software engineers in Oxford to curious founders, digital creatives, and passionate students. OxLiT is all about bringing Oxfordshire’s vibrant tech and innovation community together, and this event was a brilliant reminder of just how powerful that can be.

As ever, the evening began with a friendly welcome and refreshments, before we dived into three unique and insightful talks – each one offering a different perspective on how AI technology, ethics, and human-centred design are transforming our working world.

Chris Seymour – Making AI Work for Humans

We opened with Chris Seymour, Founder of Ginger Biscuit Ltd., who offered a grounded and practical view on what AI should really be doing in our lives and businesses. His message was clear: AI should be about solving real business problems, not just chasing the latest buzzwords.

Chris challenged us to shift our focus from automation for automation’s sake, to creating AI systems that actually give people time back to do meaningful, human work. It was a refreshing reminder that in the world of AI and talent solutions, it’s the humans who matter most.

Iliana Grosse-Buening – Ethics in the Age of Innovation

Next up, Iliana Grosse-Buening from Quiet Social Club invited us to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Her talk delved into the importance of building a human-centred, sustainable digital future, where ethics and innovation go hand in hand.

Drawing on her work in AI ethics and governance, Iliana offered practical frameworks for thinking about tech beyond functionality – considering impact, intention, and long-term societal value. A compelling and thought-provoking session, especially for those working in or around recruitment businesses, product development, and software engineering.

Davide Zilli – The Rise of AI Agents

After a short break and plenty of networking, we were joined by Davide Zilli, CTO at Mind Foundry, for a deep dive into the fast-evolving world of AI agents. Davide explained that while the term might be trending today, the underlying models and concepts have been around for decades – and now, thanks to new advances, they’re becoming both powerful and practical.

He explored how agent-based systems are poised to reshape industries – from finance to healthcare to the way we write code. It was a session packed with insight for anyone working in tech talentAI product strategy, or engineering.

What’s Next for OxLiT?

The formal talks might have ended, but the conversations continued well into the evening at The Royal Blenheim. One of the things we love most about OxLiT is how these discussions naturally spill over into the pub – because some of the best ideas really do come over a pint.

Missed out this time? No worries – we’ve got more events coming up, and they’re shaping up to be just as valuable:

📍 AI for Business – Oxford, 24th April
