“What a fantastic event! It was probably the best meetup I have ever been to.”
We’re super excited to share that the Oxford Leaders in Tech (OxLiT) meetup group had an awesome launch! Held right in the heart of Oxford, the event was packed with founders, CEOs, CTOs, aspiring entrepreneurs, future leaders, and technical managers, all eager to learn about “Building for Shareholder Value.”
The event, hosted by Joseph Edney, featured an amazing panel of Oxfordshire business leaders who shared their insights on building and exiting successful tech scale-ups. Here’s a bit about our fantastic speakers:
- Charley Darbishire: Founded Educake, a SaaS business for schools, in 2011 and scaled it for 12 years before selling to Twinkl Ltd in 2023.
- Karo Moilanen: Founder CTO of TheySay, a spin-out from the University of Oxford’s Computer Science Department, providing advanced Emotional AI and NLP services. TheySay was acquired by Aptean, Inc. in 2018. After the acquisition, Karo provided specialist tech, R&D, systems integration, and strategy consultancy at Aptean.
- Adam Reynolds: Former CEO of Webexpenses, acquired by ELMO for £29m in 2020. Adam became the Managing Director and exited the business at the end of 2023. He is now a Managing Partner at Invincible Software Holdings.
- Malin Svanberg Larsson: Partner at Freeths, specializing in corporate matters like mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and early-stage investment. Malin is highly ranked in Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500.
The discussion was so engaging that the audience couldn’t stop asking questions, and we actually ran out of time because there were so many!
After the event, a bunch of us headed to a local pub to keep the conversation going. It was a great chance to make new connections and network with Oxford’s vibrant tech community.
And guess what? OxLiT is just getting started! We’ll be hosting these meetups every two months, so make sure to check out the OxLiT MeetUp page to stay in the loop about upcoming events.
Hope to see you at the next one!
