Job Description

Do you want to work in a small team, but still have your focus on the backend (PHP/Laravel) side of development?

Do you like taking on a mixture of challenges developing web apps, websites and mobile (Ionic) apps?

Are you a good team player and excellent communicator who wants to work with a bunch of diverse and quirky individuals that care about making a positive impact on society?

If the answer to any of the above is "yes" then this role is for you…

A new PHP Developer role has become available working for a fantastic company who do great things for their clients and make the world a better place by giving back to society. They work in small development teams of around 5 people (1 Front End Developer, 2 Back End Developers, 1 Designer and 1 Project Manager) taking on medium to large projects that usually take at least 6 months+ to complete. With an increase in demand for their development services, they require at least one additional Web Developer to join their team and hit the ground running.

There is a place in the company for those individuals who are all about the new tech, breaking things and getting stuck into learning - however, there is also a place for those that regard themselves as a "steady pair of hands". Essentially, they appreciate that not everyone wants to code at home and they encourage a strict "end of day" policy to stop people overworking or burning out.

So, what is in it for you as a Senior PHP Developer?

  • A salary between £35-50k but DOE.
  • Flexible working arrangements - with the option to do 3 or even 4 days per week too.
  • Flexible working hours to fit around childcare duties and provide you with a work-life balance.
  • Good tech - mostly using PHP/Laravel but they have some projects that require upskilling before starting. You will get exposure to tech like: Drupal, Node, WordPress, Python and Django as well as Front End JavaScript libraries like Vue, React and Angular.
  • Split week between the office and home - 2/3, either way, is fine.
  • Working with great people, caring about their work.
  • Work within a culture that encourages people to play around with interesting technology and learn new things.
  • Strong ethos on life balance and healthy work.
  • Takeaway and games nights
  • Fantastic office space in a great location with an unlimited amount of choice to get back in the swing of eating out, after-work drinks and activities when lockdown finishes.
  • Working with fantastic colleagues who have created award-winning teams.

So, what does the business want from their PHP Developer? Well, as much as possible from the below:

  • Experience working in commercial software development around PHP.
  • Experience working on projects (ie. Not just products) - but they are flexible
  • Communication, both written and verbal
  • Good testing and quality assurance understanding - TDD/Unt Testing ideally
  • Someone happy to contribute to the upskilling of others, and happy to be upskilled in return
  • Experience in the following areas: Drupal, Laravel, Python, Django, React, Ionic, Cordova.

If you feel like this role is for you then please do apply immediately for consideration. We will then follow up with a general chat about the role and what it entails.
