Job Description

Are you looking for a Lead Engineering role, for a Data-Driven business, providing niche customer data to businesses within retail, transport and travel?

Do you want to lead from a technical perspective, without the line management responsibilities?

Are you comfortable working with Java (or Scala, then even better) and AWS technologies and keen to expand on your knowledge?

If this sounds like you, then read on!

We have an awesome, Lead Software Engineer / Principal Developer / Tech Lead – that kind of role!

The client is searching for a Lead Software Engineer to join their smart, data-driven, software business and develop outstanding solutions, features and enhancements. Using copious amounts of data to analyse and then package up for customers within Retail, Transport, Travel and Hospitality, their systems allow organisations to make important changes to processes and resource management. Using 100’s of data sources, their software provides important insights and commercial opportunities to organisations.

Essentially, the data they provide can help businesses structure workflow, staffing numbers and resource management. With the data at their fingertips, they can offer incentives for customers/users to change behaviour in order to make things easier to manage, eg. If a train is going to be full, they could offer all people happy to wait until the next train, a free takeaway coffee to incentivise them to stay on the platform. This helps with health and safety measures around things like Covid or overcrowding, it could allow businesses to arrange a steady flow of customers to ensure they can staff the business or even just to drive business to a place/shop/event. The possibilities are endless because the tech under the hood is so powerful.

The business is well backed and on course to hit major milestones soon – hence the recruitment drive. In terms of it’s chances to make it big, well, they already have some pretty impressive customers and campaigns running. They have also just received some good funding, whilst also being watched by FAANG businesses for acquisitions (which is where the stocks/shares/equity side of things could be a lovely perk).

The company is a world first and a unique idea with the eyes of the big tech companies on it. Working with a huge amount of Real Time Data from thousands of data sets and with technology that includes Scala, Java, AWS, React etc, they are doing some really intelligent and interesting work.

Why you should consider this Lead Software Engineer role:

  • Salary in the region of £65-£75k for this round of funding, but with a view that this can escalate and increase quickly.
  • Flexible working arrangements, coming into the office when required for team days and big meetings.
  • Share options in a business that has quadrupled in value in the last 12 months
  • Very generous holiday allowance increasing with years of service
  • Exposure to great tech and a variety of it – AWS/JavaScript/Scala/BigData

Experience and Skills you will ideally have experience with (if you just have some, we still want you to apply though) for this Lead Software Engineer role:

  • Cloud (Ideally AWS Lambda) and development (Scala/Java/JavaScript) skills of at least 3 years, ideally within a modern Agile environment.
  • Source control, continuous integration and unit/integration testing experience, Git and Jira.
  • Communication skills that work across a range of stakeholders, colleagues and levels
  • Ambition to work on something really cool
  • Creativeness to solve challenging technical and commercial problems

So, if this sounds like a great Lead Software Engineer position for you, please apply immediately for a private chat with me about the position.
